| There's already an official
FAQ
over at SLAY Radio, but I thought it might be a good idea to have
a Value-Added FAQ which explains some specific points about my show,
because n00bs might come along and say, "what the blinking flip is
all this nonsense?" So, here it is!
[1] What is the BBB?
BBB (short for Boz's Bit o' Bollocks) is a live show, transmitted on SLAY Radio
every Wednesday at 20:00 USRT (Universal SLAY Radio Time, which coincides with
either CET or CEST, depending on Daylight Savings). The broadcaster is Boz,
an English guy now living in Gothenburg, Sweden, which is where the show is
transmitted from. It normally plays requests from the users, although sometimes
it will play some "show exclusives" - tunes that composers have made specifically
for SLAY Radio or, more specifically, BBB.
The emphasis of the show is that it tries to involve the listeners as much as possible.
This is done by talking about things they say on IRC, replying to questions they
have, joking around and generally having a good time. New listeners are spared this
until it's been established that they've been listening three or four times, at which
point they're considered "fair game" and are gradually included into the fold.
Because all of BBB's listeners are adults, the show's content is of an adult nature.
This means that there is a strong possibility that there will be descriptions of
sexual activity, profanity and explicit content. Those persons with moral objections
or of a sensitive nature are advised not to listen.
[2] What ISN'T The BBB?
BBB is definitely NOT a serious show. The reason that I broadcast this show is
because of my love of Commodore 64 remixes, and I want to share that with the
listeners, with an enthusiasm that hopefully rubs off and lifts everyone else's
spirits in the middle of the working week. There's a lot of talking in between
tracks, so the BBB is definitely not a "that was one track and now here is another"
type of show.
[3] Why do you "ruin" the tracks?
Because I can! Part of the reason for the show is to have a laugh and
play little sound effects, especially when listeners ask for them - just little soundbites
and sound effects here and there. A well-used sound effect, for example, is known
as the "Boz Train", a sample of me shouting "Wooh-Wooh!" (which comes from a show
Skitz and I did at Marcel's old place in Amsterdam). That's very often dropped into
a dance track and is supposed to denote that, if I were in a dance club and this track
came on, I'd be shaking my booty to it!
But, of course, all these stabs, stingers and drops constantly lead a small number
of listeners to complain. To these listeners, I will say this: If you don't
like what I do, follow these instructions:
- Tune-out of the show, by pressing STOP on Winamp or whatever you're using.
- Tune back in when I'm not transmitting.
- Download tracks from
RKO; they won't be interrupted.
- I've made it very clear what my shows are about. Stop bitching and moaning. Just DON'T LISTEN!
I'm not going to change my show into a generic rotational-with-a-few-words style just because a few
(and I do mean a FEW) listeners don't get what I'm doing, or don't like it. Just tune out, it's
VERY VERY simple!
[4] Can you send me that exclusive song / ident / jingle / sketch that I heard?
The very quick answer is "no". A tad harsh, maybe, but the reason that all of the
SLAY shows are different from each other is that we have a different "feel". This, in part,
is made up of the exclusive songs, or silly sketches (in my case in particular). If I were
to just share all my stuff out willy-nilly, then it removes the uniqueness of my show. If you
want to hear the sketch / jingle etc. again, just listen to my show again!
In the case of exclusive songs, remember that a lot of them aren't made by me; they are
composed by one of the kind remixers out there. If you want their song, ask them directly.
It would be irresponsible of me to send you one of their songs (without their permission), as they
may not want it spread around.
Sometimes they release the song anyway - a good example is DJUnz, who released the
Boz Songs in May 2007 on the Remix 64 boards.
